Hi Graham & Peter,
Many thanks indeed for taking the time & trouble to check the original register for me. At the end of the day all we want from our genealogy researching is the correct information so I am very pleased that I can now discount this 'theory' of mine.

I shall look further into your suggestions too, Peter - its something I have not thought about before. I think genealogy is like fishing, if you caught one every time you cast your line, it wouldn't be half the fun.
