Hiram Sterry b 1857, Longhope (General)
Whilst searching "Lydney" within the Welsh Newspapers site I felt dutybound to look for Sterreys, altho I suspect our good friend Peter Essex has already done so. I'm pleased to say this fine upstanding family don't appear to have fallen foul of the press, however their Longhope cousins do get this mention, which I'm sure is forgiveable given the season;
From the Cardiff Times of 8th January 1876;
"LITTLE DEAN.
POACHING.— At the petty-sessional court on Monday, before the Rev. C.E. Dighton and Mr R.J. Kerr, Hiram Sterry and Benjamin Bennett, junr., of Longhope, were charged by Sergeant Mallet with trespassing on lands in pursuit of game. P.C. Young stated that on tbe 12th December he was on duty at Blaisdon, and about 9 o clock at night found defendants near the woods of Mr E. Crawshay and the Dowager Lady Crawley Boevey, with two dogs, and on searching Sterry he found a hare, which was warm, and the hairs of which were wet, and torn apparently by a dog.
Fined 10s. and costs.

I cannot yet find Hiram/Iram's burial or whereabouts after 1881 ???
However searching FreeBMD etc gives this Birth which looks suspiciously like it may be his son, and deceased Thomas' grandson ?. Very few Hiram Sterrys on record.

In later years Hiram T Sterry marries and dies in Newport, Monmouthshire.
However, GlosBMD gives this Marriage, suggesting Hiram T is son of Hiram's younger BROTHER, perhaps named in memory of Hiram who has died just after 1881 Census ?
