Catharine Hughes 1830 (General)

Mary and Cartharine are mine and you might well have John! I note every John Hughes reference can find for checking later, and one of my most recent additions was this squinty eyed chap found on the The Regimental Archive Of The Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia)-

Hughes, John, Date of attestation: 1807-12-31 Place of attestation: Lantrechan Attested by: Principle
Place of birth: Monmouth Monmouthshire Age at enlistment: 19 years 80 days Occupation: Sail maker
Height at enlistment: 5 feet 2 inches Physical description: Complexion fair; eyes hazel squinty; hair brown; face round
Record of service: Transferred 01/04/1813 to 51st Foot
Notes: Height at 24 years 5 feet 4 inches.

If this is him, he was born 1788. AND the chap who you found buried also b this date.

I'm away from home right now with only the most essential info on my portable PC, but when I'm reunited with my full info next week, I'll look into this further. I noted a possible John Hughes bap with a mother Catherine (can't remember father offhand - but would go towards explaining multiple tries at daughter's name) in 1788 on Mike John's site, so looks as if this might indeed be my guy.
