Catharine Hughes 1830 (General)

Yes, I followed up on the previous clues and discovered that my John Hughes, baptised 20 Apr 1788 Monmouth s/o Wm and Cath Hughes, and buried 8 May 1833 in Dixton did indeed fight at Waterloo. Hoorah! And many thanks to all who helped me find that out.
In fact he spent 11 years from 1 April 1813 to 23 Nov 1824 in the army, but returned to Monmouth eventually with his health broken and with wife Mary in tow: she claimed on the 1861 census to have been born in Portugal, so that makes sense now - daughter of the regiment. No idea where, when, or indeed if they married but could have been anywhere in Europe and most likely not in FoD!
As that one likely to be impossible to solve, my current project in this neck of the family is parents "Wm and Cath" who remain elusive. They don't seem to have married in Monmouth so theories on either side of the Wye open for speculation.
I have recently been in touch with a descendant of the "posh" Hughes family of Monmouth, who seemed to monopolise the position of Mayor for several centuries. Members of the family were bankers, others owned Wye Trows and traded with Bristol. I don't think my Hughes were that well connected, but maybe some of the other folk on this thread link to this lot?
As to RAF connections, my John only had 2 girls, one of whom died, Catharine b 1830 being the survivor, so no flying chaps here! Although, I do have RAF connections in a quite different, Irish-Indian branch...
