Mike and Slowhands,

Once again I thank both you gentlemen for coming to my rescue! I also believed that George Cox either "labored" in the military or at sea, thereby explaining why he did not appear on any census, or was confined somewhere. I could not get it to tie in anywhere, though, as I did not know how to access any goal records, nor have any time frame to look at since he had to be around when all these children were born!

Do either of you have a preference as to which George Cox is the most likely candidate in the goal records? Also, any suggestions as to how I can obtain proof of his identity in these records?

As for Ann Matilda, WOW! You two are brilliant. I did not suspect for a minute that she was the illegitimate daughter of Mary Jones who eventually married James Brooks. The kicker here is that I actually transcribed my 3x great-grandmother's baptism in the Bream baptismal register without being aware of doing so! I remember regarding the name as interesting since I had "Ann Matilda" in my family tree, but never made the connection.

Slowhands, you have come through so many times with vital info on my Cox/Tingle branch. And, Mike, I'm certain you were my Leadbeater source a few years back! Interesting, too, that the "Lodger" at my great-grandparents, Catherine and Edwin Cox, in Glamorgan, Wales was a "Gwilliam". The only Gwilliam in my FTM is "Eliza Gwilliam" who married George Leadbeater in 1868.

I now have several avenues to explore and will send for the marriage certs for George and Ann and also Mary Jones and James Brooks.

Thanks again, guys!

Jean
