Philip and Sarah Jane Hopkins (General)

Oh dear, I am covered in confusion and self doubt. My deepest apologies to you regarding the marriage of Philip and Sarah Hopkin - at some stage in the past, I had found this record, and was confused by the fact that they had the same surname prior to marriage. I asked the question on this very forum and was assured that first cousin marriage was common for a variety of reasons. I promptly stored the information away as printouts and forgot to enter the data in my e-records...

When I tried to find the marriage the other day, I forgot all about this, and of course only searched under Philip Hopkins (Soundex on). And Soundex only works with the surname, so unless you use the double l in Philip, you don't find the record. I had not had a wine at the time.

So I apologise to you for that.

However, as you point out, your search turned up a link between my family and another Hopkins family, in the form of William Williams. I think that William married into the Llandogo Hopkins, so I will follow that up to confirm it. The latter family is the one where I have contact with two descendants who live not far from the Forest. I note that William Williams' wife's parents have the same name as my great great grandparents, but they cannot be her parents because of the years. However, that does suggest another possible link between the families.

I learned one new fact from Philip's certificate of death. One of his daughters, Sarah Worgan (who had married William Worgan of Hewelsfield) was in attendance at his death.

Thanks once again. My search for Philip's baptism, and hence the names of his parents, continues...
