Given the 1820 birth and the rather unusual(?) related occupation, I wondered if this was our Thomas but fallen on hard times, but obviously not, interesting though.

Anyhow, back to our "Forest" Thomas Hillman and family, I also found this LDS hit, given the familiar names this interesting find looks relevant.

So looks like both brothers emigrated to the US after the 1871 England & Wales Census.

LDS carries other records of Thos/Nathaniel/Louisa Hillmans in Ontario etc which may warrant followingup, was the St Laurence River the route they took into the USA ? ..
