Hi Jeff

I have the 1911 census that states a Marjorie Adalina Newman in Bath, Somerset, I'm not sure whether it is her but I also have this birth record, so maybe it is.

Name: Marjorie Adelin? B Newman
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1909
Registration district: Bath
Inferred County: Somerset
Volume: 5c
Page: 458

I couldn't remember where I got the name BURGH from (Adalena Marjorie BURGH Newman) so I checked my records and found a letter that my father received in 1995 from a Solicitor who was tracing living relatives of Prof Charles Gordon PHILLIPS who died in 1991, in the letter it shows 4 generations of the PHLLIPS family (which was a good start for me)and states "Edward Percy PHILLIPS who was born 14th September 1895, who married firstly Florence Alice May ROBINS in 1914, secondly Adalena Marjorie Burgh NEWMAN in 1930 and who died in 1942". Until then Dad had no knowledge of his cousin. So that's where the Burgh comes in.

I know that one of Percy and Lena's sons who visited Dad years ago lived in Wales at the time. Now you know as much as I do about Lena, not a lot I know.

This is the Death Record for Lena:

Name: Marjorie Adelena B Phillips
Birth Date: 15 Aug 1909
Date of Registration: Jun 1984
Age at Death: 74
Registration district: Reading and Wokingham
Inferred County: Berkshire
Volume: 19

If it is her I don't know why she ended up in Berkshire. Unless she remarried but then her Surname would be different.

As for Stroud, I just don't know.

I will start on newspaper archives tomorrow and start with Cinderford Library.

It seems that Edward "Percy" is as elusive in death as he was in life.

Judy
