Hi Judy,
yes the DF Guardian was the main Forest paper every Thursday from the 1870s until becoming the Lydney Observer & the DF Mercury in the 1920s and then The Forester in 1990. Until around 12 years ago The Forester was printed on the same beautiful old press at the same premises in Cinderford just a few yards down from the Library premises. (As a mechanical engineer I was delighted to see the old press working while still at the old office, nowadays of course its all done far more efficiently using that noofangled electrickery).

The other local newspaper over much the same timescale is the daily Citizen based in Gloster, it is archived in the aforementioned BNA website.

I'm confident a search of the Mercury archive at Cinderford Library will be productive for you, especially as you have a good idea of the issue dates you're after. I suggest you try and visit the Library during a weekday if possible, it's so much busier on a Saturday morning, especially if you want to browse their good selection of local history books(see their website catalogue). I think the Library prefer advance booking to use the microfiche readers, especially Saturdays. If you prefer to see the original newspapers themselves, the Forester office do accept visitors (early in the week, please) but note the papers are large broadsheets bound in heavy leather covers, so handling and especially photocopying is awkward and space is limited. Please contact them in advance first via this email which goes to my sister Sally Coleman or her colleague, adverts AT theforester.co.uk

Wishing you all the best with your search, please revisit the thread to update us if you can, thanks.
Jeff.
