Thomas Hawkins (General)

Hi Stephen,
You will probably have seen that Slowhands has identified a Thomas Hawkins staying virtually next door to Hannah Reed at the time of the 1881 Census. (Thank you Slowhands for this info!). I think it most likely that this is 'my' Thomas Hawkins. Two things intrigue me; one is where did he come from (he is described as a 'visitor' on the Census and the other is that, on Gertrude's birth certificate, the name of Thomas Hawkins has been carefully ruled through by the Registrar (Edward Teague). I wonder why ? Another interesting thing about this couple is that not long after Gertrude came along they had a son whose names were Harry Tucker Hawkins. I wonder if his middle name name has some sort of significance ?
Matt
